Ontario First Nations

There are many Ontario First Nations. Common First Nations ethnicities in the province include the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and the Cree.

The original inhabitants of the area that is now Ontario included the Algonquin, Cree, Huron, Ojibwe, Ottawa, Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) tribes, Neutral, Petun, and Wenro tribes.

The Munsee Delaware people were not originally native to Ontario, but migrated there after the Americans forced them out of their homelands.

The languages of the Ojibway, Cree, Delware, and Potawatomi First Nations of Ontario are derived from the Algonquian linguistic family, while the languages of the Oneida, Mohawk, Seneca, Cayuga, Onondaga and Tuscarora First Nations are derived from the Iroquian linguistic family.
